HDMAC is a great place to fly a model aircraft, we hold twice weekly club flying sessions and have virtually unrestricted access to our flying field at other times. New members from beginner to expert are most welcome to join us, in fact, if you are interested in model aircraft, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Our club promotes the flying of fixed wing model aircraft, with members flying electrically powered aircraft ranging from Gliders and  Warbirds through to Electric Ducted Fan “jets” and everything in between. Members have wide ranging interests and you are as likely to see a plan, own design or kit built model flying at the club site as you are a “foamy”. Whatever your model flying interest, we are sure you will find someone with similar tastes. If you are new to the hobby, you may like to visit our Learning to Fly page.

In addition to the twice weekly flying activities on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings, we arrange light hearted competitions and themed flying days throughout the season. Our monthly meeting at the Old Oak Pub in Horsley Woodhouse offers a regular opportunity for a pint and a chat and we have an active WhatsApp group which is particularly useful for arranging ad-hoc flying sessions and sharing information or ideas.

Before flying solo at HDMAC you must be a member of the British Model Flying Association and have a DMARES Operator Identification. The BMFA offers a host of support to members but most importantly 3rd party insurance. Accidents are very rare but HDMAC tries hard to be a good neighbour so our club rules require everyone to have BMFA insurance before they fly solo.

For anyone wishing to improve their flying skills we are privileged to have one of the BMFA's Midland Area, Chief Examiner's amongst our members and as such we can offer members training and examination based on the BMFA fixed wing awards scheme.

If you would like to get in touch with the club please use the Contact Us page or alternatively, join us for a pint at the Old Oak, Horsley Woodhouse where we meet at 7:30 on the on the last Thursday of the month. The beers good and the company excellent!
